3 Questions to Ask Yourself When You're Overwhelmed.

"It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience." -Julius Caesar

Ever feel like you're in a fog? Like you don't know what to do next? Like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders; part of you wants to eat junk food while binge watching tv and part of you wants to hop on a plane and go somewhere far away?

You are overwhelmed.

You just want to escape.

But what if that is the very opposite of what you NEED to do?

What if you want to DETACH emotionally, spiritually, and relationally...what if you want to DISENGAGE your heart, your resources and your time...but what you really NEED to do is ENGAGE?

Because the idea of the thing is always far more glamorous than the actual doing of the thing, isn't it?

Want to make a difference? Well, there will be times that it will suck.

Want to do work that matters? Well, there will be times that it will suck.

Want to write a story with your life that you'll ultimately be proud to have told? There will be times...well, you get the point.

Because on the other side of the mess may be the very thing you've been looking for. But one thing is for certain,

While you are busy making the thing (sermon, service, project, etc), the PROCESS is making you.

The end result is important. What is happening TO you is important but not nearly important as what is happening IN you!

If that is true (and I think it is), then if there was any moment when you NEED to ENGAGE, IT IS NOW!

Many times, the thing you least WANT to do is the thing you most NEED to do.

We get overwhelmed when we allow our minds to get too far down the road. Instead of thinking about what faithfulness looks like someday, think about what faithfulness looks like this day.

You can't control your circumstances entirely, but you can control your attitude, your work ethic, your passion, and the position of your heart.

You can decide to lean in to whatever situation you find yourself in.

Don't get frustrated because you can't see through the fog. You can see the next step. That's enough. Do something with that.

So, with that in mind, here are three questions I want you ask yourself...today...each day.

I believe that as you do, you'll find stress loosen its grip on your heart, peace begin to rise, and your passion for your work begin to return.

You do work that matters. You might as well do it with all of your soul and fully engaged, right?

So here are the questions...

In light of your current circumstances:

What does it look like to be faithful today?
What does it look like to do great work today?
What does it look like to be fully present today?
